How to successfully start with your webcam

Do you want to start your first livecam show, but you're nervous and unsure how everything will go, or whether you're well prepared and will find the right words?
We can reassure you:
You are not alone. Every creator had similar concerns before their first show.
It is normal to be unsure when you don't know exactly what to expect.
But don't worry: first, your customers won't bite through the camera, and second, we assure you that it gets better with every new livecam show.
Here are some tips to step in front of the livecam well-prepared, confident, and in a good mood, because that sets the foundation for a successful show.
1
Preparation
As a first step, perform a speedtest to measure your upload and download rates. The minimum upload should be 5 MBit/s, ideally 10 MBit/s. Contact your internet provider to adjust your speed or choose the best connection for you. A stable internet connection is crucial for an uninterrupted transmission. Your connection is most stable when you go online via a LAN cable.
If your PC does not have an integrated camera, we recommend a simple entry-level camera with a 1080p HD widescreen sensor. Aim your camera so that you can reposition yourself easily and make sure it is on a solid surface so that your image does not wobble. For more flexibility and freedom of movement, use a wireless mouse and keyboard so you can detach yourself from the PC/laptop.
Choose a place where you feel comfortable and can work in peace. Make sure that your customers cannot recognize any objects in the background that you did not place there on purpose. Utensils such as toys or clothing should be kept near you. Ensure sufficient lighting, but avoid harsh or flickering light or shadows. Small colored lamps can enhance your image and background and make it more interesting, as long as they do not flash or change colors quickly.
2
Body Language
The first few seconds are crucial, as your customer also pays for these first seconds to see you. It is important to provide a positive first impression so that the customer stays with you and doesn't look elsewhere. As soon as you start your livecam, you should actively take care of your customers and not occupy yourself otherwise. Be focused and prepared.
Are you in a good mood? Are you looking forward to new experiences? Do you find yourself attractive in your outfit? Then you're ready to go! You can also turn on some music and move. This way you can make your livecam show a bit more appealing and exciting.
Remember: If you feel good, you will radiate that automatically, even if you don't show your face! Your entire posture and body language will be more confident and therefore more appealing.
3
Health and Mood
Your health and mood have a great influence on your performance in front of the livecam. If you are stressed or sleep too little, this can have a negative effect on your health and mood. If you feel like you might lose customers if you're not online for a day, you might put yourself in front of the livecam anyway, even though a day of rest would do you good. Unfortunately, this quickly leads to a downward spiral! It is important that you feel good and enjoy stepping in front of the livecam. As soon as it feels like a compulsion, it will also be transmitted to your customers and they won't feel comfortable. Also think about your health and give yourself some rest! Your customers will thank you for it.
4
Look into the Camera
Looking into the camera shows confidence. Treat the camera lens like the eye of a good friend and talk to it as if it were that friend. But be careful not to come across as creepy! An intense look can unsettle customers or make them wonder if you are okay. A short look while you answer can convey a lot and the customer will notice it. This look creates closeness and shows attention.
Conclusion
Prepare yourself well - besides the technology and your outfit, also pay attention to your mood, health, and body language. Radiate positivity and your customers will feel it. Look into the camera as if into the eyes of a friend and show activity and attention towards your customer. Start the livecam with a smile and show your customers that they are in the best hands with you!
